Dan Lamprey

Dan loves the process of transforming product ideas and business problems toward a technical solution with an optimal user experience that aims to provide measurable value, and beyond – especially the invaluable lessons that are learned along the way, no matter the path.

Career:

Dan started as a web developer and quickly evolved into an architect and team lead to build countless web applications with diverse technology stacks and platforms. They later discovered product management and decided to pursue related opportunities, so they could focus on the part of the SDLC (software development lifecycle) that they enjoyed most – working with business stakeholders to understand their problems and partner with software engineering teams to build the best possible technical solutions.

In Dan’s first product management role, they served as a group product manager within Comcast’s national sales organization. They were part of a dynamic team that managed about a dozen web applications, supporting the efforts of thousands of sales employees across all sales channels. Among many of Dan’s accomplishments was serving as the product manager to build a replacement tool for about 2,500 direct sales reps on the Salesforce platform that dramatically improved the operational processes for territory management and increasing sales. They also played an instrumental role leading a team that developed a new tool that introduced lead management capabilities at Comcast for the first time, which generated over 80,000 leads with a 16% conversion rate, culminating in more than $12 million in orders.

Following a reorganization at Comcast, Dan ventured into entrepreneurship, founding a startup that sought to revolutionize the real estate market by facilitating direct transactions between buyers and sellers. Although the business eventually concluded, Dan’s meticulous approach to discovery, evaluation through user research, A/B testing, and data analytics reaffirmed their commitment to data-driven decisions in product development.

More recently, Dan held a contract role at Charter where they broadened their experience working on a physical product – a WiFi extender. They were able to leverage their knowledge of networking and experience at Comcast to contribute to an initiative that improved the technician experience when installing Pods that reduced installation time and increased technician-led sales that involved changes to the mobile app they use.

While exploring their next career move, Dan experimented with AI and came up with the idea of using it as part of a product that would help educate the product management community, and hence founded Product Manager Handbook.

Dan’s Favorite Quote:

“Failure is the condiment that gives success its flavor.”

― Truman Capote

Personal Life:

Dan lives in Colorado, where they enjoy being active in and around the mountains. When not solving business problems with digital product solutions or tinkering with new technologies, Dan likes to solve bouldering problems at the climbing gym, mountain biking, hiking, or playing in the snow. They also have advanced skills and extensive experience with home renovations and repairs — that is both a blessing and a curse — they love helping others with their projects on their home “products.” Whether building, fixing, or innovating, Dan’s passion lies in solving problems and creating solutions that make a difference.
